In November 2012 when GameTrailers’ debuted theirTimeline video series, the KINGDOM HEARTS community was astonished to discover the secret teaser at the end of the video. The series’ iconic title theme, Dearly Beloved, softly played as the familiar Kingdom Key Keyblade was shown stood gleaming in the sunlight on a sandy beach. As the scene faded away, the words “SPRING 2013” appeared, and the community erupted in excitement.

Two weeks ago, they released a follow-up trailer showing off some iconic scenes and locales from the series thus far, further engaging their audience and attracting everyone’s attention. Degraded Keyblades lay scattered across the once forgotten battleground of the Keyblade Graveyard, empty thrones loomed over within Where Nothing Gathers. The star-studded hat of sorcery calls out for its long-retired Master, and the tree bearing star-shaped fruit basks in the warm light of a setting sun. This proved one thing and one thing only; that this Timeline would not be anything like what we expected.

The success of their previous Legend of Zelda timeline made it clear that the upcoming video would be nothing short of incredible. Even in the face of doubt, the GameTrailers team put great care into making sure they would be able to do the series and its fans justice with spot-on accuracy in every single piece of information. After almost 6 months of waiting, we are finally able to witness this from beginning to end! With GameTrailers at the helm, let us take a walk down memory lane and line the pieces up in this broken chain.

To those of my friends who have been curious about Kingdom Hearts but never had the money, time, or drive to play the games and discover exactly why this game series has captured my heart over the last ten years:

This timeline does an EXCELLENT job exploring its mythology and lore, as well as explaining its complicated story in a way that makes it very easy for non-KH fans to understand and enjoy.

It delves into all of the current games and clarifies many of the confusing details that have been uncovered in the recent games that often intimidate newcomers and old-timers who have stopped keeping up with the series.

GameTrailers did a beautiful job, and I commend them and the many people who helped them piece this together.

I encourage everyone to watch it, Kingdom Hearts fan or not!

We teach them “sex is super desirable and all the cool kids do it, and it’s hideously shameful and will destroy your life” and we wonder why they act an eensy bit neurotic about it. If you tried to design a system for making sexually active kids confused and unsafe, you couldn’t do much better than the American media and school system.

And for once, the answer is relatively simple. Just talk about sex like it’s a part of life. Some people have sex and some people don’t, because people are different. STIs aren’t bad because they’re Dirty Crotch Rot; they’re bad because they’re contagious illnesses like strep throat or whooping cough, and you can ask a doctor to check for and treat them just like you would with strep throat. Unwanted pregnancy isn’t a scarlet A; it’s a mostly-preventable accident that sometimes occurs when people are going about their normal business of having sex. You can ask the school counselor about a variety of topics, including career planning, problems at home, questions about sex, or conflicts with teachers.

If we could just get the goddamn stick out of our collective ass and accept that sex is a human activity and teenagers are humans, maybe there wouldn’t be quite so many plaintive “I don’t understand my body and I’m confused and scared and I don’t know anyone I can ask in person” messages flying out into the world.
